You are my song, my wished-for melody—

They burn in passion through the night
The royal seal of romance graces
The grand throne of their embraces
Sunlight brightens lovers’ windows
I am dust dancing where the wind blows
Welcome to the feast of desire
Fire-eaters to the feast of fire
These flames are mirrored in the sky
Infinite stars as far as the eye
Can see—they are all heaven’s flames
So many we can’t give all of them names!
SHAMS
My cup of wine is shattered
And all the wine is gone
My body and mind are tattered
The cure relies upon
Shams-u-Tabrez the Prince
The guide to all true seeing
The one who can convince
The drowned soul into being
Alive above the ocean—
With celebrations on the shore
Music, festive commotion
Laughter and wine to pour
Where trumpet sheds a ray of light
Where sight and sound are one
Only Shams bestows this delight
There is no other—none!
Shams is the energy that sets,
Like strong winds overhead,
Moving atoms in streams and jets
Tasting of salt and bread
Seek for yourself the borders
Fly with wings, depart
And tired with obeying orders
Lie down and open your heart!
