Book Review

Mayur Kalbag’s “Aghori 3: Death and Beyond” closes his trilogy about Subbu, a seeker drawn into the hidden world of Aghori sadhus. In this final book, Subbu rejoins Tadamba for one last mission: a malevolent force threatens sadhus across the Himalayas, and the answer lies on forbidden Sentinel Island, guarded by a reclusive Aghori and protected by a deadly sea serpent.

The first book, Aghori: An Untold Story, introduced Subbu’s spiritual journey and mixed adventure, mystery, and the practices of the Aghoris. The second, Aghori 2: The Untold Story Continues, pushed him into tougher spiritual tests, including the transfer of powerful mantras and encounters with supernatural beings. By the third book, Mayur has built a familiar world of mantras, rituals, gurus, and supernatural danger.

Mayur’s writing is simple, vivid, and easy to follow, with a visual quality that suits the novel’s mystical settings. The language can feel dramatic and occasionally over-explained, but it keeps the story accessible to readers new to spiritual fiction. The pacing is uneven: the quest moves briskly through encounters and revelations, yet some mystical explanations slow the momentum.

The thriller elements—secret missions, ancient evil, dangerous journeys, and life-or-death stakes—give the book energy. Still, the supernatural answers sometimes arrive too neatly, reducing the sense of real danger. As a finale, Aghori 3 is entertaining and imaginative, best for readers who enjoy Indian mythology, spirituality, and fast-moving mystical adventure.
